Length
Area

You can set the Selling Method in the Unit Attributes tab of the Product Details Panel, also when adding items to the Cart.

The list of units of measure can be extended by using the Product Administration page.

Leveraging Unit attributes

In the Product Management, a value can be set for each product attribute in the Unit Attributes tab of the Product Detail Panel.

The values for the same product can vary depending on the sales scope, because each market can sell the same product differently, depending on the measurement system and the item format that is usually used.

Example:

In Canada, a steak might be sold in 250 gram portions. However, in the US a steak might be sold in 10 ounce portions.

When adding a product to a cart:

Unit of Measure defines the quantity added.
Item Format is a multiplier of the quantity added.
Selling Method defines how the price is calculated.

Example 1:

Product: Flour A

Unit of measure: kg

Item format: 1.5

Selling method: Unit

Adding one quantity of Flour A to the cart results in buying one unit of 1.5 kg.

Example 2:

Product: Flour B

Unit of measure: kg

Item format: 1

Selling method: weight

Adding one quantity of Flour B to the cart results in buying 1 kg.

When creating a promotion in the Marketing application, a campaign manager can specify the unit of measure for conditions and rewards of type product. The unit of measure applies to the threshold value for the condition or the reward.

Example 1:

Product: Flour A

Unit of measure: kg

Item format: 1.5

Selling method: Unit

Promotion 1

Adding one quantity of Flour A to the cart results in buying one unit of 1.5 kg.

The promotion can apply 3 times, so the customer will obtain a $3 discount on their order.

These attribute values are also used to calculate how marketing promotions are applied to a cart.
