Understanding Order and Fulfillment Locations
What is the difference between an Order Location and a Fulfillment location ?
Order Locations and Fulfillment Locations are separate entities with a different purpose.
The Order Location is the entity that the sale of the order is awarded to. The Order Location owns the order. The entity might represent a physical store location, or a virtual store location representing a website. An Order Location is linked to a scope in the system.
An Order Location does not fulfill the order; it dispatches the order to the appropriate Fulfillment Location.
The Fulfillment Location holds the inventory that is required to fulfill the order. The Fulfillment Location completes the process of delivering the order to the customer. Depending on the Fulfillment Type selected by the customer or the inventory availability, one Fulfillment Location might be chosen in preference to another Fulfillment Location, when the locations are compared based on their inventory availability.
